Natural History Museum

Yesterday we took the train to London to go to the Natural History Museum. I have always wanted to go there, ever since my brother Adam went with the Scouts when he was 10 and I didn't go (I wasn't in the Scouts). He loved it and brought back a Natural History Museum rubber, of which I was very jealous:(. London is a big trip when you are 11 and live in Hull, but fortunately it is not so far from Norwich when you are 37, and yesterday my dreams were realised!!!

The museum building itself is absolutely incredible and FREE to get in, which is fantastic. You enter the Central Hall (in the photo) and the first thing you see is a massive Diplodocus, and you know things are going to be good. We sent a lot of time in the Dinosaur section, complete with moving roaring and breathing T-Rex, the Mmammal section, with the Blue Whale, and also in the aptly named 'Red Zone' Earth section complete with earthquake shop, which, Benny and I agreed, was not as violent as our earthquake (Naomi declined that one). There is also a slice of a giant sequoia tree from California which was over 1300 years old when it was felled, amazing.

It was a great day, and first train journey (apart from the famous Wellington to Johnsonville line) and London underground experience for Ben and Naomi.

Quotes of the Day

Naomi: Is the train just like a plane? (when we were on the train)
Me: Yes, apart from it doesn't fly.

Naomi: How come there aren't any TV's?
Ben (about 10 mins later): I think it would be a good idea if there were TV's on the train.

Janet (when we were checking which train to get onto on the tube): You'd think they would colour code them wouldn't you?

Classic!

  1. Glad you had a lovely trip to London! For 3 years I worked a block away from the Natural History Museum and would go in my lunchtime sometimes. 2 times a year they have a massive London fashion week expo outside with the most amazing shopping - you'd love it Est!
