Dax

I know it sounds like something from a Dr Suess book, but it actually the name of a little town where we stayed a couple of nights ago. We drove there after the Dune, parked up in a car park next to the road and went to sleep to the sound of old men in berets playing pentanque outside (still playing at 11pm). We have 'suessed' out that it is completely the done thing in France, you just look out for camper van signs or a group of campervans all parked together, indicate and pull over. France is all set up for camper vans and positively encourages free camping, which is very good for us as at this time of year as the amount of campsites still open is diminishing by the day.

Dax is a nice warm little thermal town which has hot water springing from everywhere. We ate macaroons (me), bought a nice new jumper to wear for Christmas (me) spent 2.5 hours at the hospital (oops, not me, that would be Alex) and bought some Hello Kitty pyjamas (oops, yes, that was me too).

Benny and Naomi obviously encouraged me to buy the pyjamas, which are actually rather cool, with a Rock & Roll Hello Kitty playing a guitar on the front. Afterwards, Benjamin said, 'Mum, those pyjamas must be for teenagers or something because adults wouldn't normally wear Hello Kitty pyjamas, if they didn't have children, would they?'.

Aha, maybe that's because they wouldn't have an excuse Benjamin!

Getting into hot water in Dax - not just with the credit card!

  1. We visited France in the half term and have done the antithesis of your trip by visiting the small part of France that is the USA, Disneyland Paris! I hardly spoke any French, not that I know any, mind you we were only there for about 2 days in total. Not sure it was my ideal French holiday, but did manage to get to the beach (well promenade, the tide was in) in Wimeraux we visited all those years ago, Love the blog!
