Chinon

We spent a couple of nights in a little town called Chinon in the Loire Valley. Managed a spot of shopping one of the evenings, browsing around antiques shops and wandering down little lanes, not knowing what was around the corner, all very nice, and all by myself (thanks Alex;)

Also took the kids around Chinon castle which has been standing since the 10th century, and has recently undergone a massive four years rebuilding and renovation project.

Chinon chateau is famous for the fact that in 1427, during the Hundred Years’ War, Charles VII made it his home. It was there, in 1429, that he received national heroine of France and Catholic Saint Joan of Arc. Joan succeeded in inspiring Charles to reclaim his kingdom, after which Chinon became his capital and enjoyed a century of prosperity. Well done Joan!

Reflections by the Loire river.
